International Biometric Group to Host Teleconference Series on Thursday, September 9 at 1pm Eastern

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 3, 2004

International Biometric Group (IBG) extends an invitation to participate in IBG’s monthly teleconference series on Thursday, September 9 at 1:00 pm ET (10:00 am PT). In these teleconferences, IBG will address questions such as:

How did post-9/11 legislation incite and confirm government interest in biometrics? What is the outlook for the expansion of the TSA Registered Traveler Program? How have specific airports responded to heightened airport security concerns? How are banks using biometrics to combat fraud? What are the implications of current testing initiatives underway in the biometric industry? How are some casinos betting on biometrics to defend their business?

This month’s teleconference series features four topics. Participants can select from any of the following four tracks, which will be broadcast live in 30-minute intervals:

GOVERNMENT UPDATE: LEGISLATION MOVEMENTS AND CHANGES (1:00 PM ET)

Several countries around the world have recently announced plans to initiate testing of prototypes for biometric passports, based on the guidelines set by the U.S. Department of State. US-VISIT continues to cast a public spotlight on biometrics in the travel and transportation sector. What legislative bodies and motions actually drive these large-scale projects for the biometrics industry? This session will highlight the history as well as the current movements of legislation underlying the integration of biometrics at both a national and international level.

PULSE ON BIOMETRICS: THE LATEST NEWS (1:30 PM ET)

The TSA is using biometrics for both the Registered Traveler Program and the Transportation Worker Identification Credential Pilot. Responding to airport security concerns, Yeager Airport in West Virginia has implemented biometric hand readers to secure access to the control tower. Banks in Japan are bolstering their security through the installation of vein recognition technology for their customers. Listen in for more about the latest biometrics news from the past month.

TECHNOLOGY TRENDS: TESTING INITIATIVES (2:00 PM ET)

In light of the numerous large-scale biometric deployments currently underway, biometric technology performance remains a highly controversial issue. Hear an overview of the latest testing initiatives for all modalities including the Fingerprint Verification Competition (FVC), Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT), and IBG’s own Comparative Biometric Testing efforts.

INDUSTRY FOCUS: BIOMETRICS IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY (2:30 PM ET)

Major casinos such as Caesar’s Palace and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas have implemented biometric devices to ensure and monitor employee productivity, identify and track con artist activity, and secure facility access control. Learn about various biometric technologies already in place in the gaming industry and how these devices have improved overall security and profitability.
